MIR880F

8 Input x 8 Output DSP Processor

Overview

Marani’s latest flagship system processors, the MIR880F family, which includes the MIR480I and MIR880F, are equipped with superior AD/DA chips that ensure an impressive -96dBu background noise. These processors support analog, digital AES/EBU, and Dante signals, with an automatic switching function that allows any signal to be prioritized. As the system’s core processor, it offers redundancy and backup features, making it ideal for high-demand signal processing applications such as government projects, upscale clubs, large mobile performances, theaters, and broadcasting.

From input gain, delay, noise gate, EQ, compression, and FIR to output gain, delay, polarity, crossover, FIR, EQ, compression, and peak limiter, the parametric equalizer (PEQ) offers a selection of up to 16 filter types. The output crossover filter includes classic Ringquitzrelli, Bessel, Butterworth, NXF (Notched X-over Filter), and FIR filters with slopes up to 120dB per octave. The newly introduced MIR linear phase crossover filter simplifies phase engagement at the crossover point and reduces latency, all in the pursuit of superior sound quality.

Marani has innovatively incorporated the concept of a DSP plug-in into its processors, moving away from the fixed and unadjustable architecture of traditional processors. This powerful co-processor can handle dynamic processing tasks that are challenging for traditional processors, such as dynamic balancing, linear phase multi-segment compression, and feedback suppression. This open architecture feature will see periodic updates in the type and number of plug-ins.

The newly designed Hard Limiter enables constant rate limiting of signals that exceed any threshold, providing better protection for the speaker unit. Each input/output channel comes with a filter that supports a maximum of 512 tap FIR. Users can utilize the built-in AutoEQ along with an external ASIO sound card to measure pulse and generate FIR coefficients, or use third-party software to generate FIR coefficients as needed. This allows for improved phase response and controlled directivity for speaker presets.

The new MIR linear phase crossover maintains the type and shape of the traditional IIR filter, but without any phase distortion. The delay it generates is approximately 50% of that produced by the FIR filter.
